In my mind, alive is a binary term. Something is alive or it is not. We don't say something is more alive than something else. Rocks, road signs and tables are not alive. Humans, pigs and fungi are alive. That is a useful distinction b

This is an insightful comment but I think you’re missing one thing in your understanding of natural evolution. Evolution has a “reward function” and it’s survival of the fittest. As reproduction produces different variants of the same organ
