In case the title is unclear, this is about gaming the specification, as in “gaming the system.”

I was on board until “fake a medium weight”… faux bold is one of my pet peeves. How hard would it be to turn Georgia into a true variable axis font?

Really cool. I can see some issues, like Starr King park turned into a lake for some reason, but it’s so much fun to look at. Do you have any way to patch errors and discontinuities at the tile boundaries?

I agree. The limitations forced composers to be economical and creative. As for modern OSTs, I like VA-11Hall-A. Never played it though

I used 98.css as starting point for the Winamp theme in https://chiptune.app . It was very easy to modify and extend, thanks!

This would be really cool for putting musical samples back-to-back. Like 50 versions of Paganini's Caprice No. 24 in 2 minutes. I did a double take on the domain name, it's very similar to mine https://chiptune.app :)

That is a great analogy! I still remember the day my cousin explained that there was a whole internet outside of AOL…

It’s pretty. Lots of people have anxiety around the big question. A tool like this can really help.

Have you thought about building it as a plugin, e.g. for Jetbrains?

I am working on https://chiptune.app . Most recently, adding SID support, and adding timing information to the emulated formats that don’t have any tagged song duration (e.g., converting NSF to NSFE). This means playing the songs

I think this is basically correct and aligns with Facebook’s massive push toward e2ee in Messenger. They don’t want to be on the hook, and didn’t do e2ee just for the fun of it

I agree that VR goggles hit a ceiling due to simple inconvenience. Whether smart glasses will suffer the same fate is a very interesting question. But the article would be much more effective without the cheap “tech bro” ridicule. Ultimate

The test hardly seems adaptive (if at all) and yet it made the HN front page. That’s impressive.

You’ll have to ask quiz takers for their SAT/ACT scores to estimate the (probably extreme) sample bias

It sounds like "know-your-customer" is not the problem, but rather the quaint assumption of a permanent mailing address is the problem. Isn't some manner of KYC an essential part of a society with laws?

Suggestions: - make the controls work like a typical FPS (i.e. WASD controls should not rotate the player but just strafe) - make spacebar jump, and a different key to talk, like T - make the jump work like a platformer where you start fall

Consider yourself lucky if they still make music in their vintage style
