I don't really understand this either. Mixer taps are just better, but I have separate taps in my bath tub despite the block of houses being built in the 2010s. Guess some people like the aesthetic.

Getting my first SSD was absolutely the best computer upgrade I've ever bought. I didn't even realise how annoying load times were because I was so used to them and coming from C64s and Amigas even spinning rust seemed fairly quic

It was alright in Quake, as I recall, but it really didn't cope at all well with Quake 2 and Jedi Knight.

The replies from blue ticks that get pushed up mostly seem to be braindead trolling and camgirl spam too. Twitter was always a bit of a cesspit but you could curate your way to a useful feed. Now it's just awful.

There's been talk of replacing the natural gas used directly for heating in the UK with hydrogen. I have absolutely no idea how viable that will actually prove to be but it seems difficult.

The user experience of reddit is already poor unless you hide on old.reddit.com. I have no idea how anyone could sign off an interface like the new one, which is just appallingly slow even on relatively high-end hardware.

They were used for video work in their day. Babylon 5 used them for effects shots. I think the big box Amigas were more common across the pond, used for work stuff, in the US than they were in Europe, where the Amiga 500 sold relatively big

Some Lightning devices use both sides to get USB3 speeds. I really have no idea why Apple have left other devices at USB2 performance. It doesn't make an awful lot of sense to me.

Do US courts not have the ability to refuse bail to people like this? You'd have the same problem if he had enough cash to afford bail. It seems like a complete failure of the system for him to even have the option of not being held on

Contract manufacturing won't have anywhere near as fat a margin as their CPU lineup has had the last decade though. That'd be a hard thing to sell to the shareholders.

Yeah, that definitely didn't help, either. Snapchat's one I can't really blame them for not allowing third-party apps for given its use, but some others were definitely playing games. It might have survived one of these issue

I liked the OS, too, but Microsoft didn't do themselves many favours by resetting the dev platform several times and not having upgrade paths between major versions. What momentum they had cratered every few years.

Going from the Amiga or Archimedes to Windows 3.1 would have been painful. I'm glad I didn't get into the PC until Win 95 had showed up and got it to a semi-reasonable point.

You can use four or more letter extensions quite happily in my experience (.html works for example). Three is just convention.

Apple have done things to mitigate a lack of RAM (consistently using the fastest SSDs they can with a controller integrated into their custom chips and now into the M1 presumably, memory compression, using very fast RAM in the new M1, etc.)

A four year old Android is years out of support to Googlew. You get two, maybe three, years from them at best and then security patches until they get bored.
