If you haven't doscovered it yet, theres is OpenRGB on Gitlab. It works with an increasing number of devices, and it also exposes an API for which there are a couple of SDKs, and it works well (tired python).

I guess because RTS games are soft-realtime systems and need precise control of everything. RTS multiplayer logic is some of the most complex I've ever seen, these games are basically distributed computing frameworks.

Rufus is so good. If you have your ISO downloaded and your media plugged in, it takes 6 clicks and 10 seconds to start writing to the bootable device. So easy and simple, and it works with everything.

Tape is also incredibly slow and difficult to scale. Also, the equipment needed to operate a cluster of tape archivers costs a lot, while they are using their own designs dor servers, with coXmmodity hardware in them.

You can read on their blog. They use custom software with Reed-Solomon* erasure coding, similar to RAID but distributed between different disks, servers and racks. Their EC library is on Github (Java). The most enjoyable posts are the ones
