cons is a recursive data structure. it’s not discussed much here in the comments, but a lot of its useability comes from that fact - you can write elegant recursive algorithms with cons as your data structure with vectors that doesn’t work

The performance sensitive parts of Emacs are written in C, which would explain why you don’t see a huge difference between Emacs and LW imo

Common Lisp, Scheme and Clojure. Try each three and see which you like. I prefer CL, but that's because I develop programs in the large.

That’s crazy to hear! It really feels like the wild Wild West with these large tech companies - consider in contrast how much regulatory and compliance scrutiny a bank would have, they would never dream to behave like petulant little kids.
