Yes, Cruise has obtained the relevant permits from the CA DMV. The only permit they're currently missing is the one that let's them charge customers for rides.

I'm not sure what there is to "fall for". Cruise is offering truly driverless rides (in a limited domain), and Tesla does not have any kind of truly driverless product (although they still call it Full Self Driving).

This comment should be higher. The ui may be even more difficult/dangerous to use if you need to use the dial instead of tapping. Like another commenter said, very curious to see safety studies on car uis.

Tesla's business model (and stock valuation) is based on launching a robotaxi service. I'd say that this news introduces more competition for the robotaxi aspect, not the selling you a car aspect.

I think it all depends on how searchable and generally well-maintained the codebase is. Having some obscure critical function hidden in a monolith is totally possible too.

Their cloud-based Notes App is simply killer. Sure, it’s a simple app but I have had a flawless experience on it. Photos is pretty great too, but I’m not sure how it compares to other photo services.

Welp, don't hold your breath. Facebook has 1.79B people on the side daily, 2.7B on monthly, and $18B in revenue in the last 3 months alone. It's going to be a while before that momentum slows down and/or collapses.
