That’s a great article, and indeed a very good blog. Just spent ages reading lots of their other articles. Of the bugs mentioned I think the most unforgivable one is the lossy UTF conversion. The mind boggles at that one!

This reminds me of the Action Replay device you could get for the Amiga 500 in the ‘90s. You could use a knob to slow down any game to a stop. You could also press a button to go to a console that let you change memory. It would even figure

I’ve had Proxmox on one of their AX42 servers for a year now. All of it is backed up to PBS, backed by Cloudflare R2 storage. None of it is mission critical - but it’s certainly something I’d use in production with a few more instances. Net

I installed Proxmox on my main desktop - with GPU passthrough I can quickly switch to a Windows desktop for the rare games that need it (mostly VR).

I haven’t yet worked out why cheap 100W PD cables partially fail after about 6 months. They can still provide some power, but between a MacBook and official Apple power supply, they’ll keep flicking between charging and not charging.

I really like Tailscale. Recently though I’ve been having some hard-to-diagnose slowdowns even on a direct (non DERP) connection. I’m not sure if it’s something to do with MTUs or my ISP.
