While this might be true for a large portion of HN's audience, there are also developers stuck in shitty positions in countries where making $100K writing software is a pipe dream. I'd be happy if I was paid a third of that.

Well actually I don't use PHP that much anymore, but I do keep an eye on it; there's been a lot of improvements, mostly on the ecosystem side. It's definitely not my language of choice, but one still has to eat, and PHP jobs

I use gandi.net for most of my domain needs and I've always been quite happy with them. They sell .io domains for a lower price than other providers (~€30 excl. VAT). I'm not sure about domain transferability though.
