pi or arduino with a bunch of extra parts to make things and see action. They can learn simple code basics without layers of bullshit from modern dev. but wait... do you want them to go from that to today's dev environments? ;)

Can your code work on AWS Lambda with one of their DB services? If you need it to scale with growth starting on a cloud platform will save headache later. If you don't need scaling it's possible you could run it on the permanently

sorry I was unclear. I assumed those who created ed knew how to use it - but regular people not familiar with ed would tend to use cat and echo when stuck in a broken / bare system.

These sound like things that used to be regular part of install/setup on BSD and Linux. It's so much nicer now not having to setup the network, GUI or disks. Nevermind the week of downloading all the floppy images.

IRC for whoever is live + good email lists + discipline on wiki|docs + good PM/ticket communications is faster and more reliable than anything in person. Non-remote is a productivity disadvantage to people who need fast communication.

We all killed SMTP when we pointed the morons with domains at gmail/apple/yahoo/o365, postfix was winning when it was ended- no reason to revisit it. All that matters for email is what Google/MS/Apple decide to dict
