I think you should narrow down the scope of what you want to be exceptional at to the point where it won't take up all your time. Then understand that it will still take a long time but maybe knowing that you are still making progress

I wouldn’t call it a Raspberry pi clone but you should consider BeagleBone. It’s a bit more expensive but I’ve heard it’s known for its Linux support
