I didn't exhaustively scanned each entry, but sampled many (> 15) and one thing that I found to be odd was that all of them were male. I'm not sure if it's cultural but it's quite interesting.

Sorry to be a stickler, but the error handling in your method "frees" a resource even when nothing was allocated to it. Freeing a null pointer is as such an undefined behavior.

+1. I wonder if making the work of curating the list of startups driven by a community, like in Wikipedia, would be more beneficial? It would also work better if start-ups are defined as part of the guideline.
