SmartOS is a good choice. They provide KVM and joyent opensource their SmartDataCenter https://github.com/joyent/sdc so you can provision VM with API. They are developing for LXC which will give you better performance

I work in AdTech too. I'm still looking for a perfect counter solution. The counter we are using always overrun (which is better than up/down/up/down). We still manage to hack it by patching the number periodically. p.s.

I am using Stash also. Love the new side-by-side diff. We switched from Gitlab to Stash few months ago. Mainly because Stash upgrade was way easier than Gitlab at that time.
