For more than a decade, we have seen how social networks let conspiracies and extremist views thrive and how they were amplified. There is ample evidence that "listening" does not tame or squash these positions on these platforms.

I agree they need to ask to track us. But the little personal data you mention is not only given to them but to 224 different ad networks. Most of them make it impossible or difficult to opt out.
