Even if Berkshire Hathaway has a market capitalization over one trillion, which I don't believe it does, $160 billion is 16% of one trillion, so it's not exactly "pocketchange for a rainy day"

I'm not sure if it's realistic to offset all our printing with increases in taxation. I think the money trickles up exactly the way you described, and I agree that government programs should be paid for by taxation instead of mone

JUCE is a cross-platform C++ library used by lots of synth software and VSTS plugins. While JUCE itself is open-source, there's not a lot of high-quality sample projects (that I'm aware of). Helm looks awesome, and it's excit

Perhaps people feel overtaxed, not in absolute terms, but relative to the services provided? The US Gov collected approximately 3.3T in revenue in FY2016--more than $10,000 for every person in the country. By comparison, the Netherlands col

The problem with lead is that it tends to bio-accumulate in various types of body tissue, making blood lead levels hard to bring down. Chronic exposure builds up over time. I also disagree that 483 tons is "a very small amount of pollu

Adults and children in the US today today are still being poisoned by leaded fuel. Aviation fuel, or "Avgas" is still leaded, and is a major problem around municipal airports. Leaded aviation fuel is used by planes which use inter

I wonder if using wood (2x4's, OSB) as a structural material has a negative impact on long-term durability. In North America, virtually all residential single-family construction is wood-frame, which is unusual compared to most other c

Interesting question! I'll give my take on it, which ties the answer to a 1942 wartime court case called Wickard v. Filburn. The Tenth Amendment states the powers not delegated to the federal government by the Constitution are reserved

I'm not familiar with Dr. Marston, but Wikipedia tells me he was "an American psychologist, inventor of an early prototype of the lie detector, self-help author, and comic book writer who created the character Wonder Woman."

Over the last 25 years lead has been phased out of paint, automobile gas and plumbing fixtures, but aviation gasoline, or "Avgas" remains leaded and is the number one source of airborne lead in the United States [0]. It frustrates

"Life is not 'easy to use'" such a great statement, in reference to software that panders to the impatience of most consumers, and their desire for constant stimulation. It reminded me of the programs I use which were _not_ initially easy:
