It was really just a bad design decision that was exploited. It should be deprecated and removed. Allow it on intranets or some legacy website specific setting, but it should be blocked on the public internet.

I’ve worked on enough internal and third-party SOA to know that documentation could be in an email, a slack chat, or a hallway conversation. The public docs go through writers and reviews. How many software teams could make their service or

Let’s invert the car analogy: if someone writes an app with a backend service or library, should they be required to document the API for people to build their own tools on top of? Where between software and car does this requirement or reg

I can poke at OBD and try to interpret values. CAN bus sniffers exist. You want to force companies to publish and maintain repositories using your preferred toolset?

That’s why I said, at what level should this disclosure be required? Obviously a small open source utility shouldn’t have to document everything. What about a $20 electric screwdriver with an unpopulated JTAG header? a $200 door buster TV?

I’m not sticking up for car manufacturers, but at what size or capacity should you be required to document and publish these things? It requires employer time and effort and has a cost associated with it. As a counter argument: I was just l

Older kids tend to get fewer, more expensive gifts. I recently did the nested boxes gag, but with gift bags. What started out as a 2’x1’x6’ draw string bug turned into two gift cards. It was a lot of fun for a shaggy dog payoff that otherwi

I personally wouldn’t choose 1984 for a 14 year old, but would consider it rather tame compared to modern fiction. Some of it would make the grocery store check out isle romance novels blush but also don’t contain any profound message.

Reading with kids before bed was our wind down activity. I attribute that and limiting screens to an hour most days to their interest in reading.

My wife instilled a strong love of reading in all of our children from a young age. They all ask to go to the library, but my oldest became the most voracious reader. If we didn’t limit screen time, he probably wouldn’t sleep, but with unli

If you're patient, you can find a PC with a floppy drive at a thrift store/goodwill for $10-$15. In my area, I see them several times a year. I have a handful of USB floppy drives, one IBM, one generic drive from the Bondi blue iM

Things we take for granted, like washing hands, were pivotal in reducing illness in hospitals. If 50% of the population walk out of a public bathroom without tracking urine on their feet or anything else that touched the floor and custodian

I’ve been a TiVo holdout because it is a great for OTA and can stream recordings to mobile devices, even over the internet. It really just works. That said, I paid for a lifetime subscription for a specific feature set. I’m sure there terms

Your grandmother sounds incredible, and her story tragic. I read your earlier comment a slight towards her. Perhaps that’s not what you meant. Since OP was adding a counter argument to the article that some people shouldn’t be trusted, you

I’m dense, apparently, and have no idea how disowning parents relates to Jim Crow. Back up to OP: he has conservative friends. They’re all cool with each other. I mentioned, in _that_ context, that I have not experienced conservatives causi

Jim Crow is slightly different than yelling slurs. I’ve also never lived during a time where it was the law of the land, but that was also not what you were originally referring to.

In my experience it’s not the conservatives who end relationships over disagreements. In fact, I’ve never heard of a conservative kid disowning their parents, family, or friends because of their liberal views.
