Then you have to wait for the download every time you open the app. This is an okay compromise tbh. (They could offer a super secure option or whatever, I guess)

Well that's not what we're talking about here. This is a thing too simple for a patent. I could probably see many things in iOS/the iPhone worth patenting, but this is not one of them. I'm not against Apple, I'm against ALL useless patents

That wasn't really a political decision, but a design error. The internal storage is way too small on the Nexus One. The same reason HTC Desire barely could get gingerbread.

I think his thought process was more like "what am I allowed to say" and decided not to take a risk :D

This really is a special case though. HTC made a terrible decision with the amount of internal storage on the Nexus One and Desire/Incredible, so the image wont fit.
