Hmm... point taken. Maybe this deserves an Ask YC, but what is the general opinion of naming companies in an quasi-arrogant fasion. Powerset seems like a cocky name compared to Google, which is even mispeled making me think they're humble.

I get the impression their plan is so grandiose that it probably won't ever reach a completed form... The context they've added to wikipedia is neat, but what would they do to present a site I made a week ago? Are they adding this extra con

My point was more that he dismissed the viewpoint right away because it disagreed with something he was passionate about. I still think "no" is the wrong answer because both of you are responding to a question the article doesn't propose. T

To bluntly say no suggests you're passionate on the topic and therefore not objective. The author suggests that ajax has it's uses but the abuses of ajax are what's on the way out. "My quarrel lies in the fact that many web designers and de

I don't have specific links. It's more of a vibe over the past few months of reading reddit and this site. Ruby, in general, seems to be getting put aside. BUT, what would i know?!

I have been getting the impression rails is on it's way out. It'd be neat to see this abstracted to apply to django too.

Agreed. My first thought was "is this a meetup site for 30+ year old looking to extend their already robust beer gut?"

I love seeing inside people's workspaces! I stare in people's apartment windows as I walk around too. So interesting! Hmm... neat idea. Maybe a website that puts rooms on display for people to critique and adjust.

I use PHP for basic stuff where I don't care much about performance or anyone else maintaining it. It's installed on pretty much every web host and it's easy enough to whip stuff up in. I haven't done a big web site in a long time, but I ca

From one new yorker to another, you've got that right! I live here because I love the city. I work in financial tech because I like the excitement of working as fast as possible to solve problems. I also dig the bonuses. :)

Fair enough. The job market is really screwy right now for financial techies. I'm on linkedin and my phone rang like crazy the day Bear collapsed. It's been ringing with people from UBS looking for staff. I've been told people are running o

The job market here in NYC for financial techies is not as you described. You clearly believe too much in startup tech centers because the risks involved with finance are as risky as start up tech careers. Riskier in some. Not as risky in o

It's lame to pretend the reactions of potential clients aren't important. Even if there is a jealousy factor, a good founder would take it into account and act accordingly. "But isn't xobni just an outlook plugin?" Clearly people have that

In my case, you missed the part where my employer's stock value dropped to $2 and the whole company was sold at wholesale to a group across the street. If I gotta be connected to those kinds of risks, I want more control and more freedom.
