I'm not involved in the initiative so I can't answer the question definitively? I provided one of the major reasons that projects get switched from C. I think it's likely to be a major part of the motivation.

As a user, you may not be aware that C makes it relatively easy to create https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buffer_overflow which are a major source of security vulnerabilities. This is one of the best reasons to rewrite

I use monkeybrains with the same ipv6 problem. One workaround is to run a VPN. Planning to switch but haven't gotten around to it

Technically it appears red dye no 3 was banned due to cancer and Delaney clause, however, keep in mind that I think the primary reason it was banned in California last year was all the studies correlating it to deleterious cognitive impacts
