We use Recurly, Stripe and FreeAgent. Recurly creates the invoices required for customers (so thats nice and simple). Our book keeper creates an invoice for each day within FreeAgent, we then attribute the amount that came from Stripe in to

Need to be able to handle UK only VAT as well. Recurly is a pain in the ass as it forces you to charge VAT on all EU customers when under UK law we do not need to. RARGH!

I've read a preview version of the book and it's worth at least double what he is charging for it. You'll save yourself so much money in the long run by grabbing it for $79. Work smarter :)
