I don't know... 99% of the really thin streets in the examples do seem to be "dead end" streets. I think you just found an error (which wouldn't surprise me, given how many minor errors I've found on Google Maps in the past year).

This is huge . With API V3 and its accompanying "Wizard", Google has essentially democratized cartographic design. It's never been this easy.

The realistic-looking highway shields are a welcome addition. (They're much better than the cartoony-looking ones seen on most online maps.) I wonder if they were influenced by this: http://www.41latitude.com/post/598792787/realistic-look
