I think the unstated assumption is that there's some sort of processing that occurs on each review every day. So with 100 million reviews every 24 hours, that's just over 1157 requests per second.

That Curve25519 implementation is by Moxie Marlinspike, and that RipeMD160 algorithm is built into BouncyCastle. There may still be attack vectors on them, but that's about as close to "reviewed by professional cryptographers&quot

The Play framework works quite well in Java as well. Although some knowledge of Scala is useful for the template engine, as well as some spots where the Java API abstraction leaks a bit.
