I tested this on my Mac Studio M4 Max running Sequoia 15.7.9. The only browser I use other than Safari (which requires Tahoe for WebGPU) is Opera, so I tested it there. When I click the death ray, it freezes Opera completely, and pins my 40

Why did you modify the title to not include Canada? According to the HN guidelines: "Otherwise please use the original title, unless it is misleading or linkbait; don't editorialize."

How did your program suggest auto-fixed names? A manually entered list of common names, or did it go by previous records? BASIC is over 40 years older than me, and I have never played with it, thus my question :-)

I gave Immich a fair try, but it could not replace Apple Photos for my use case. YMMV, but my favorite Photos app features simply weren't available. I use Apple's top-notch editing for all sorts of stuff - RAW images, videos, basi

I think that's just a limitation on the size of the model. I'm pretty sure that they use a pretty small model in those summaries to save money, which naturally makes them a little less smart.

The full Perch V2 model at https://huggingface.co/tphakala/Perch-v2 can do some frogs and cicadas and such, but it is not very good. It will certainly detect it, whether the species will be right is a whole other quest

I run BirdNET-Go as an app on my Home Assistant i7 M710q. I use the GPU-enabled BirdNET model and Perch V2, and it works swimmingly. Input is three RTSP streams from various Reolink PoE cameras around our house, and it is pretty cool to be

One use case I find cost effective is using it as a voice assistant for Home Assistant. API pricing on models is very weird compared to the normal chats, so I use Qwen/GPT-OSS on my Mac Studio via llama.cpp server.

My iPad Pro M2 takes around 30 seconds to solve it in Safari, while my Mac Studio solves it in about 3 seconds using 449% logical CPUs. It really makes no sense. Interesting how much slower it is than native - could it be protections agains

That's true. I just meant reviewing certain changes and whatnot. I suppose the key is whether you consider vibe coding a bad thing or a good thing. Because if it's good, then that's good news, right?

That is fair - but your wording makes it sound like he is going to set aside his brain and let AI tools do all the kernel-related work for him, which I don't think will happen. As far as I see it, he is vibe coding tools for himself bu

As far as I understand, Torvalds said that he is not going to oppose all AI-generated improvements to Linux, not that he's vibe coding new kernel modules for fun.

Since you are dead-set against getting a Mac, why don't you move to Android? It seems like a better fit as Apple's whole thing is about continuity between their own devices, which obviously will not work for you.

AT first I was very confused, then I realized that this is building on TrueNAS CORE, and not TrueNAS SCALE. Makes much more sense now!

It is insane to me that the datacenter operator caused the cooling to fail and then failed to notify Proton either before or after the incident. That seems exceptionally bad - is that normal?! I hope Proton gets reimbursed for the cost of t

It's puzzling how mild the reactions are to Anubis compared to the people reacting to seeing one singular Cloudflare captcha checkbox. I'd much rather a checkbox than a brief CPU-intensive hashing session.

Oh, I'm sorry. When you said "I don't have the spare 8TB" I assumed you were talking about GLM. Also, it's very rare for people to have the 8TB option on Macs - it's got to be a $1600+ option, huh? So not very

I'm sorry to hear that. But my GLM5.2 is not 8TB, it is only around 200GB and works pretty well. (0.9tok/sec from a 40Gbps NVMe) I used https://huggingface.co/anemll/GLM-5.2-sidecar
