@dang something about this website triggering content blocking filters. hate to say that i don't have time to investigate but it seems worth mentioning

Predictably, if you say anything sane on the internet, you get a longwinded rude nonsense reply for your effort. The consistent message from social media in the last 10 years is: don't try to talk sense. That will be punished.

propaganda. "the economy isn't actually good!" they won't even show a chart in the article. 493 is up ... look at a 2025 5y chart. not that "basically flat" (actually 2023) chart google tries to feed you as a t

“Needless bullshit” is a bad take. What if I have a mission and I like it and it’s totally authentic? My customers like it too. Are you calling me full of it for achieving that difficult goal? I think you’re right about a lot of inauthentic

Cool idea and I like the format. Transformer circuits and attention would be a cool thing too.

Speculating about existential risk is certainly important, but way too easy to overstate. It can easily become distracting and actually dangerous in itself. Here’s a good take on it: https://www.ai-breakout.com/post/ai-

Yeah I should have left the Rumsfeld part out because the conversation naturally got distracted. It isn’t accurate to attribute it to him. His was perhaps the most prominent recent version , but he was definitely paraphrasing an existing ad

Haha. Thanks for sharing that. Rumsfeld definitely has a sense of humor. He’s also one of the best candidates for that type of conspiracy theory. His career history is flabbergasting. Check out https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki&

Yes I like the zero joins on hot paths approach. It can be hard to sell people on it. It’s a great decision for scaling though.

I’m reminded of one of my favorite sayings: You go to war with the army you have, not the army you might want or wish to have at a later time. You may want to ignore that this this comes from Donald Rumsfeld (he has some great ones though

I have always agreed with Vinod Khosla about doctors. Much of what they do today should be replaced by AI. My own opinion: their arrogance is the most offensive part of the situation. There are plenty of great doctors and surgeons out there

It really depends. If the chat is high quality and actually doing something helpful, then I want to talk to it. The adoption rate and usage stats of ChatGPT disagree with the tile.

Absolutely no thanks. Where to start? There are so many poorly thought out ideas here it's like a firehose. Videos of crazy intersections somewhat "working" in the third world does not at all suggest a superior, safer, less c

They are a large portion of ER cases and ambulance calls. If you go to an ER in an urban area, especially late at night, there's always a few crazy people raving in some sort of episode.

Maybe it’s too harsh that I used the term “whining idiots ”, but if you’re going to make a retort you shouldn’t play into “whining” by being sarcastic. Sarcasm doesn’t win anyone over ever.

Seems fine to me. I’m still on it. It’s still active, I still see content. So some community is dark? Who cares. If i wasn’t subbed to it I don’t really care.

Yeah that’s exactly right. The reddit mods are the worst type of drama queens. They should have no special power to control the user experience or site traffic.

Dubliners is a great little book. Probably the most approachable Joyce? He’s just playing with sounds and rhythms and images. The characters are interesting too but what I got from it was a lot of experimental and playful descriptions.

I find Reddit mods are particularly power crazy. Most of them seem to be doing it for power rather than for love of the content of their sub. There is so much personal bias and posts removed for personal reasons, or just to flex. I’m not sp

I think it’s pretty on-point though, because while Celiac disease is real (gluten intolerance), most people saying no to gluten don’t have it. The notion of gluten “sensitivity” or allergy is debated by medical science to say the least. It’
