I feel like this neglects a huge use case: women that get harassed by random men in public spaces. Headphones are a godsend for this. I have multiple friends that wear headphones even when they’re not listening to anything for this reason.

Exactly, off the top of my head I’m aware of the fact that the US has accidentally bombed a hospital and a wedding party... but it’s background news. Bring it up to the average american and they might feel uncomfortable or explain it away.

Technological panopiticons now, most doors are locked or alarmed and the remaining entrances have video surveillance. Windows even on the first floor are often limited from opening very wide. Many American schools also have a police officer
