Email didn't evolve with Gmail. Only the UI evolved. It could be suggested that Wave was a revolution rather than an evolution, and that was its greatest weakness. I'm sad that it's gone.

It appears that that article applies to situations where you need to make a choice. When you accept the UI defaults, someone has chosen your meal or movie for you - no choice needs to be made.
