I hit this with Pixelmator...I actually assumed it was their fault, and just uninstalled it and reinstalled it again, after which it worked fine. I'm on Snow Leopard still though, so might not just be a Lion problem.

1) Agreed. Fully. Of my outside work time messing around on projects and such, 50% is reading HN, 50% is experimenting with new Rails plugins, or Ruby gems, or databases. I find on average, I end up finding something I prefer every 1.5 year

I'd say the 'nil-nil' approach is the safe option. You CAN achieve greater things in the context of a season by conserving energy where appropriate, but it's a lot easier to get it wrong and end up losing net energy.

That assumes that every valuation is aiming for the 'quick buck', the x10 return. It could be that if the angels are less certain of whether a company can balloon, they demand the more exact valuation in the theory of making that a x10 port
