I'm running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 on a Core 2 Duo with the newest version of Chrome (19.0.1084.46) - no crash! I haven't had the time yet to check the code properly but why do you have a 5090x6640 pixel canvas element?

Use Percona Server instead of MySQL: http://www.percona.com/software/percona-server/ Works the same as MySQL..just faster! (and nginx + php-fpm as j_col already suggested)

Cool idea..doesn't work in Chrome though (latest Chrome 18 on 10.6) but worked great in Firefox
