Which is why people who care about stuff like this use an AMD GPU, whose driver is open sourced and mainlined in the kernel. This is not perfect since there are still BLOBs, but it does help a lot.

Do you by any chance have a link to the "open framework Sacred Gold" you mentioned? It's been a while, but I sure would go look for my old disks to give it a try in FHD!
