Memories! I have 3 of those long cylinders from my old TouchPad too, and a stubby one from the Veer. Solid 5V2A chargers, but boy do they stick out.

"Nothing to show for it" is strange way to requiring getting value from something. 2 hours after I eat lunch, what do I have to "show for it"? I'm perfectly fine with all the hours of music and the accompanying enjo

Apple has paid out about $20 million dollars in their security bounty program, and a good portion of that must be iOS-related, so much so that they offer dedicated iOS devices to researchers. iPhones have been jailbroken by visiting a webpa

Make sure to drain out the oil pan drain plug every once in a while to get the small shavings which should be stuck to the plug — it’s magnetic to hold on to them.

Will another 10 years go by and there still won't be a dark mode for the app? As someone who uses the mobile app basically every day, it is absolutely one of the things that bothers me, every single time I use it. That's not a goo

I'd love to see the stats on the "quality" of comments over time. Quality is subjective, but I'd put some qualifiers such as: 1. Grammar and spelling 2. Length of comment 3. Relevance to previous comment and subject matt

Can confirm, I have an HL-2390DW using CUPS shared to a numerous Linux, Mac, iOS, and Android devices with absolutely no issues, it takes 3rd party toner cartridges and works without issue.

Can you share a photo? I keep 3 (!!) RFID tags on my wrist using my Pebble 2SE and a NATO strap, they're 100% unnoticeable and invisible aside from added functionality. I'd love to add storage for microsd to it; especially if it d

The worst time to do something for the first time is in an emergency. Definitely a good idea to jump start on some areas that are lacking, no matter how small the steps are they are worth taking.

To note, the monthly security updates DivestOS provides don't (can't?) include baseband and such "firmware" updates for legacy OEM-unsupported versions of Android. Don't get me wrong, it's terrific that securit

No it isn't, AOSP is open source (it's right in the name) and there are projects like CalyxOS, GrapheneOS, and LineageOS which make it extremely easy for anyone on HN to get away from having Apple or Google on their mobile devices

Google Pixel + GrapheneOS is an excellent alternative to an iPhone in terms of usability, privacy, and security, and hardware + software longevity. I know it seems weird to recommend a Google phone, but one can completely eschew the issues

Why not contribute or extend existing projects like GrapheneOS or LineageOS? These both have excellent time-tested documentation. If you stay out of the weeds in the community and focus on the technical aspects, you can easily get a support

A job can simply be a job, a means to an end. Money to go do the things that you will thrive at. It's hard to get there mentally, and you might not even want to, but either you can come around to it, leave, or stay and likely stagnate.
