A similar law is still going strong in The Netherlands. As of this year, most Dutch sites greet you with an annoying pop-up.

Same here, I switched to vim when I realized that TextMate 2 was basically the "Duke Nukem Forever" of text editors. I don't think I'll switch back, but I will play around with it and see what was so awesome that took that long to develop.
