We do pay people to go to school already, there are a multitude of retraining programs available for older workers. But as in this article I think the people in question are the reason for these programs not working, the one factory worker

Except you can't start a space company without a lot of your own money much like Musk did. You need the big capital first to launch a company that requires hundreds of millions in capital.

I've had some experience with trying to make things that work on iOS/Android work on WP7 and it's nearly impossible. For starters mobile IE does not implement tap/touch handlers; which is a dealbreaker for mobile web apps.

They aren't one of the biggest companies in tech. I believe they just barely passed 3,000 total employees recently. Compare that to Google, Microsoft and Yahoo who all have more than 10,000.
