Ah, thanks for the plug!! I did this as a fun little weekend project, glad people are finding it useful as a reference of how simple vanilla JS can be these days. :-)

Right but the point I was aluding to was there's a difference in pressure from being just a developer on a team like I was to being catapulted to "the guy" who's supposed to lead delivering mission critical software bug

Pushing companies like Facebook to implement data portability is a great thing, but these companies want to maintain copyright control and that is apparent by their actions. Since it doesn't look like these companies will give up copyrights
