I've thought this as well - location might play into all of this as well. I live in a relatively small county in southeast Georgia and all of the fast food joints here start great but end up abysmal simply due to the caliber of people

Yep. Sounds like that company did her a huge favor in hind sight for not hiring her. If that is how HR is handled, cannot imagine the rest of that operation being much better.

At rest encryption would not prevent a breach from happening per se. The data the breach reveals however, maybe less than accessible due to the encryption. The data could be accessed but not easily read. That is the hope anyhow.
