Interestingly, but not exactly related - the OS update process will not start if you're connected to CarPlay. Probably to avoid automatic updates from triggering when you plug it in to charge in the car.

I spent 2 weeks in Japan and used the Suica card near-daily in multiple cities. Sometimes it wouldn't even activate until I tapped it again, other times there was a delay.

You have the developer app installed. It does seem to be deep linking wrong. Sign in with Apple email addresses are email addresses for the Sign in with Apple button.

It is a VPN in the sense that your traffic flows privately through a third party. This is what most people refer to when they say VPN. It is not a VPN only in the technical approach.

The ones that are not in great condition get sent to third parties and sold for slightly less. But Apple will replace the screen or battery and sell them themselves as well. I've gotten Apple refurb products with minimal signs of wear.
