I think it becomes a relative path without the final/root dot. That is, "example.net" in the zone file "mydomain.com" will be understood as "example.net.mydomain.com.".

I replied to a specific comment, not to the article. In particular, nescafe said this was "an OK intro to pre-POSIX bourne shell scripting". I took this to mean that he would provide POSIX-endorsed suggestions. The double brackets, at least

How does that work? Who assigns the DNS values for chat.youporn.com? Moreover, youporn.com and chat.youporn.com actually point to the same IP address, namely 31.192.116.24. There must be some level of affiliation then, right?
