XQuartz might be of interest to you. It used to be included with OS X in older releases but is an external download now. http://xquartz.macosforge.org/ After you've installed it, you can test that it works by typing

Never heard of that website, seems useful. Unless I am missing something, however, it seems that while the OpenBSD, NetBSD and DragonFlyBSD sources are up to date, the FreeBSD sources are out of date from 09-Dec-2013.

I disagree. I think the logo is nice, I think it looks ok even in small size, I don't think it unbalanced the NeXT machines when it was put on them, I think the colors are cute and the font is sharp.

Blender is pretty good. I've only used it a few times but I agree that the UI seems to have improved quite a bit. I did find the interface modes a bit confusing at first (and I say that as someone whos primary text editor has been Vim
