No. In my experience they last for several years. At this point, we'll upgrade phones maybe every 4-5 years now so its unlikely we'll use an iPhone to it's full limits of software updates but certainly don't have issues

I don’t think this would work for users using aliases for their email signups. In the existing system, myemail+yourservice@domain.com can be verified. In the proposed reverse method, sending emails from myemail@domain.com, not myemail+yours

It really depends on how a person works. For me, I am frequently mobile, meaning I don't sit in one spot all the time. Having a powerful laptop as my primary makes perfect sense in that case.
