I wonder if it's a good idea to read SICP for the first time in a... let's say a language that people have mixed feelings about rather than the original version of the book. I guess nothing wrong with learning Scheme but as a Java

I rarely hear devs saying they use much of what they studied, except some general programming techniques. I do think having a degree is awesome but I'm not sure who is actually wary of self-taught programmers.

What's your point? We should just not try out new things? It's not like HN is representative of the industry as a whole anyway. Platforms, languages, frameworks etc etc learn and copy from each other, imo people switching technolo

If by an 'archaic contextual experience' you mean real world objects and by 'unnecessary tradition' - body movements, then I don't know what kind of future you want to live in.
