well the meter and the kilogram themselves are either completely or partially defined by the speed of light. its a fundamental constant that a large portion of nature depends on, so i doubt such surgical changes could be realized.

append or extend is adding keys without updating existing keys. update can add keys and update existing keys. put will blow away existing keys if they dont exist in the new payload. which is why it cant be upsert.
