That doesn’t matter to laid off people if most companies have a hiring freeze and there’s net reduction in tech workforce. It means most laid off people won’t get jobs until companies start growing again.

I think a 1% wealth tax is enough to encourage billionaires to move out or CA, but probably not out or US. I doubt most startup founders would consider it when founding the company.

Just look at the top paid 10% of any of these engineering organizations and you will find far more managers/directors than individual contributors.

This 100%. Having been both engineer and manager, I have to say it is much harder for engineers get promoted beyond the senior level, so pay is going to be higher over time for managers.

It’s also much easier to get promoted as a manager M1 to M2 vs senior engineer to staff engineer. Managers automatically have a lot of impact across multiple teams, but it’s much harder for senior engineers to demonstrate that.

Options have a strike price that is close to their last round of private valuation, so you are effectively valuing them at 0, which as you say is irrational.

I’m not sure why other banks haven’t followed. One month treasury rate is already up to 2.3% now and banks can certainly lend it out at higher than treasury rate.
