I don't get Framework. Why not make a laptop with a thick enough base to fit motherboards of different designs? Like with a pc tower, I can put whatever I want in there. Why is there no "laptop base" equivalent of a pc tower?

I've seen a lot of coatings to do this, usually very expensive and require many applied layers. Just a flexible sheet would be so nice, but in the pics it looks more like a tile. I guess that is just for testing right now?
