GitHub did this to me a few years ago. I still feel violated. Not by my idiot former employer. I feel violated by GitHub. I got my account back. Sort of. They detached a significant amount of my content from my account, and returned to me a

Impressive! I've been using Fluentd a lot, will look at this. p.s. Search for "complaince" and fix the typo :-)

It's impossible for me to be as anonymous as I like on Quora, because they require a government ID with the name I want to use. Which isn't even that weird! It's my legal last name, plus my childhood nickname for a first name

Yes. Within hours of registering my account, Quora emailed to let me know that my name sounds fake and that I have to prove my identity with government ID, or I can't use Quora on an equal basis with other users. It really burns me! I

That's a false dichotomy. Ask MetaFilter is a much better Yahoo Answers, but I can be pseudonymous there. Also, my pseudonym is much closer to a real identity than what's on my driver's license. I don't have any real rea

I'm experiencing a sense of schadenfruede because I'm embittered by Quora's arrogant "real names" policy. They won't "let me" contribute. Nothing insightful. I'm just here to kick them while they

Nitpicking: if you're keeping the name, pick a canonical way to spell it and "enforce" that everywhere :-) Repo name: Git-Enforcer Logo at top of readme: git ENFORCER call-to-action button: "Install Git Enforcer Free&q

I do like the idea overall. So, let me tell you why I instantly hated it and closed the tab. Your Show HN headline did a great job, I was excited to see what a github repo quality bot does! This is a personal preference, but I find the name

The idea that bonobos and chimpanzees can speak the same language is absolutely thrilling. Even though bonobos are chimps, I always saw the two species as very distinct; this discovery really resets my worldview on multiple levels.

A custom build with only the components you're using cuts the CSS size dramatically. You also get to specify your supported browsers, which can cut down the size as well. Finally, you don't have to use their javascript, and not ev

In a world that wasn't fucking awful, Dawkins would be Ahmed's idol, instead of his creepy public persecutor. I guess that's what happens when you spend a few decades on a pedestal, drinking your own kool-aid.

As a teenage Muslim atheist, Dawkins was my hero. As an adult, 20 years later, I am embarrassed for him and for you, his followers.

Yes, Richard Dawkins, a 14-year-old boy intended to get arrested and deliberately provoked an overreaction by Texas racists, whose existence I'm sure he was totally aware of, because 14 year old boys are some wily motherfuckers. Richar

A few great comments from /r/linguistics on Reddit really enlightened me on this topic. Gender isn't senseless, it's a checksum strategy for information. It's not even about sex, lots of grammars have genders that h

Nope, people who paid $600+ for an iPhone still had to have a two-year contract, they didn't even get compensated for it with a subsidy. And at the same time that you paid $600, AT&T was giving Apple a cut of the contract, someth
