This sounds like the technique that bands use when they first come to a new city. Use a smaller venue so everyone hears the show was sold out.. then the next time they come back, they can play a bigger venue and fill it.

This is exactly it. Not to mention all of the "internal" resources/time they put into that number. I also imagine they did an overhaul of their internal booking system, and possibly increased full-time staff (project managers, support, an
