Due to some sort of internal Dec sales war you could buy the same hardware running VMS($$$$),Ultrix($$$),or NT($) - we bought NT and wiped the machines then installed Linux. They gave you Sparc ultra performance for 1/2 the price.

Alpha workstations were pretty awesome just then - although we used to buy the cheap ones with NT and install linux.

I'm glad then that teachers don't go into engineering. Another plane crashed today - one of the turbine blades was cracked but we decided to give it sensitivity training to get in touch with it's inner strength rather than callously replace

You throw kid A out of the class for behaviour, but you don't throw kid B out because he is usually OK. But then kid A's parents get mad - or think they can make some money - and it turns out that kid A is belgian/green skinned/three eyed/a

The solution is simple - increase teacher salaries and have more computers in schools. It's worked for the last 30years

Usually the reader has a local log of the last few cards read. If it detects the same card again within a certain time window it assumes it either read it twice - or two people are sharing a card - and ignores the second read
