Good point, re: the CA law. The rule for text output may be limited to the EU AI Act, which Anthropic notes as a reason in the linked article about its implementation.

As far as I can tell, this and the recent change to add watermarking to text outputs[1], is to become compliant with the EU AI Act[2] and CA's AI Transparency Act[3], SB-942[4]. For large enough companies, all generated AI content is r

I guess the fact we see any at all given the distance and small angles just emphasizes how many there are out there...

Oh nice, I had not zoomed out enough. I don't think I've seen the relativistic jets rendered before. The AR mode looks great on my phone. Yep, I had fun learning a lot about punchcards, Fortran, and the math behind black holes. I

I think the contrast between the two sides is typically greater with an optically thick disk, and it looks like you are rendering an optically thin disk. I think that's the main difference from what I was expecting when I saw it. Very

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but it feels like the leading edge of the accretion disk (coming towards the viewer) should be significantly brighter than it is shown here, and the trailing edge (going away from) should be significantl

Interesting choice to build in Greensboro. That's also where Boom chose to build a factory and it looks massive as you leave the airport. The plan for this company's factory looks like it will be significantly larger.

this reminds me of Polyworld by Larry Yaeger, an artifical life sim where each creature has a vision system. i played around with this back in the early 2000s though the hardware i had access to was basically insufficient to run it in any r

i made some art on this site years ago. some people used this to make plottable art. plotting it is definitely a slower way to watch it work through a drawing :)

The main benefit I see is being able to more accurately represent different light sources. This applies to transmission but also reflectance. sRGB and P3, what most displays show, by definition use the D65 illuminant, which approximates &qu

The only applications I'm aware of that currently do spectral rendering on the fly are painting apps. I have one called Brushwork ( https://brushworkvr.com ) that upsamples RGB from 3 to a larger number of samples spread ac

i would expect the more dense part to be the smaller gamut that can be made with paint since we've been naming those colors for a lot longer than the larger gamut that can be made with a screen. The paint/print gamut looks kinda l

diffraction grating wouldnt give you a controlled lighting environment (illuminant). they seem to handle that issue here by using a known spectral reference chart which might let them handle any normal lighting environment.

The speed limit went up to 85 in Texas. It seemed to max out at 75 or 80 in other places. I'm not sure if an extra 5-10mph made the difference, but it could have.

How do you look at spamming private messages to many recipients, resulting in a similar effect to posting publicly? I know of bullying on FB where the harasser sends the same message to dozens of friends of the harassed. FB makes this easy
