You've never been able to opt out of any of the google search algorithm features. I don't see why you we be able to opt out of this one.

I don't necessarily think this is true. Advertisers want to be able to attribute revenue to the types of ads that they show, that way they can spend less money on advertising and focus it on the channels which actually work for them. C

Reading more into this point in the post than i maybe should but "Take advantage of our expertise operating MySQL." sounds like they have more engineers familiar and comfortable working with MySQL than they are with Redis.
