its already the case with el salvador and bitcoin. bitcoin wasn't really under question though for being a security so would need someone to make a smaller token legal tender

To be clear none of this is defi, its all just traditional borrowing and lending. Aave pays 3% on USDT right now and lenders there are doing fine in defi

there are over 12,000 OTC stock tickers, these are mostly scams. I know Schwab allows OTC trading. The NYSE+Nasdaq combined also have around 12,000 tickers. So 50% of the things available on Schwab are scams.

Its a solved problem in crypto too. Shapeshift allowed for swapping of funds while always having control of the keys, but it was given hell by regulators. If it were allowed to grow maybe things like ftx wouldnt have gotten so big

They are explicitly a product for user privacy. Given that the depositor can prove the source of funds put into tornado cash via a zk-proof there is no reason that this should be shut down.

Tornado Cash has a great feature that you can use to prove the source of funds that were withdrawn from it as needed. This would allow exchanges to implement something where funds from Tornado could have to provide this proof before deposit

Who says they didn't put money into USDC? I have talked to people there who definitely use USDC as a primary savings device, with btc and eth mixed in on the side for long term holding
