I can't speak to the strengths of the VScode plugin, but if it's anything like the emacs gdscript plugin (which I use with Spacemacs + vi keybindings), then the integration is very tight. I get just as much completion as I do in t

The limitations of Godot's in-engine text editor can be compensated by a more powerful external editor: VScode, emacs, vim, etc. An example would be the lack of remappable keybindings: this can be overcome by using an external editor.

Logging to console, to build a mental model of the codepaths data and events take. Git grep (or ripgrep) to find usage - useful when refactoring and to see how data is used/accessed and where it's passed around. Also useful to not

Cool! I went over something similar in an old blog post ( https://joellord.dev/blog/posts/Build-a-Text-Editor-in-Lisp-... ) only I did the C portion in Common Lisp too, using CFFI + Grovel.
