This would be great if the best frameworks and APIs were the most popular. But they rarely are. Most people are too lazy to learn which APIs are actually the best.

Why would a company that uses Java even consider Node.js? Java is hands down faster. I have never seen a benchmark that showed Node coming even close to Java performance. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bzkRVzciAZg

More likely by charging $6400/month for 68GB of RAM. That's less then $100/GB/Month. With low prices like that it must be hard for people to resist.

Why do people use Heroku? I never understood the appeal. Oh.. because they have a good graphic designer. Lol. "Forget servers, instances, and VMs. Focus on processes." If that doesn't raise some red flags for you then you get what you deser

I have Ubuntu 12 running on a Toshiba laptop. Runs fine. Toshiba's keyboards kind of suck now but otherwise they are pretty solid.

For any constant load applications dedicated servers are definitely much cheaper then ec2. Amazon wins for APIs and convenience but not for price.
