I think most of the cost is because of the personal and inventory risk that everyone involved carries. With 100x markup, seizures at borders aren’t as big a deal. And there are lots of people involved, each one adds markup.

That doesn’t say anything about a Uber style bake sale lose money on every order scheme. PTAs accept donations. I agree with your overall premise, there was no need to make up a story around it.

It could be private funding that makes up the difference. Or that money is spent elsewhere (maybe more counseling, meals, etc) Looking at the conditions externally should not be enough to contradict data, assuming the data exists ave is acc

Wanted to call out that this would probably require most of us to never have existed. Specialization is more efficient at the macro level; this efficiency is why there are 7b humans instead of many fewer.

How many LBOs happen each year in the US? I would guess somewhere around a hundred. So dozens of success stories per year might be really good, compared to similarly distressed companies that did not get the LBO.
